We are pleased to announce that in an electrifying finale of the continental race competition held yesterday in Lagos, Kenya's Edwin Kibet and Ethiopia's Guta Meseret Hirpa emerged victorious at the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, held in Lagos, Nigeria. This remarkable event saw 36,000 runners from all African countries competing for the top prizes.


Kibet, a seasoned Kenyan athlete, dominated the men's category, crossing the finish line with an impressive time, earning him the top prize of $50,000. In the women's category, Guta Meseret Hirpa from Ethiopia proved unbeatable, claiming the first position and a cash prize of $50,000.


The 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon attracted top athletes from around the world, with participants competing in both the elite and Nigerian categories. The event was organized by the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Committee in collaboration with the Lagos State Government.


WINNING RESULTS

Men's Category:

1. Edwin Kibet (Kenya) - $50,000

2. Nehemiah Kipyegon (Kenya) - $20,000

3. Bernard Cheruiyot (Kenya) - $15,000


Women's Category:

1. Guta Meseret Hirpa (Ethiopia) - $50,000

2. Hirpa Kennedy (Kenya) - $20,000

3. Third-place (Kenya) - $15,000


Nigerian Athletes Category:

Men's Category:


1. Nyango Gyang Boyi - $5,000 + N2,000,000 Access Bank Special Gold Medal Award for Outstanding Runners

Additionally, five Nigerian athletes out of many selected from this noble Forum during the Youth Talent and Discovery Award last year at the Bubendoff Memorial Grammar School Adazi Nnukwu in Anambra State received special gold medal awards, qualifying them for trials at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. 


These athletes are:

2. Okafor Uchechukwu Jacinta - Anambra State

3. Micheal Kosarachukwu Juliet - Anambra State

4. Onwuadionu Chinecherem Benedicta - Anambra State

5. Nwoye Onyebuchi Isaac - Anambra State
